National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a ‘Navratna’ company under the Schedule ‘A’ category of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), was founded on 7th January 1981, with its registered office in Bhubaneswar. NALCO is one of India’s largest integrated bauxite, alumina, aluminium, and power complexes. The Indian government holds 51.28% of NALCO’s equity capital. The company operates its Panchpatmali Bauxite Mines, which supply bauxite to its alumina refinery in Damanjodi, Koraput district, Odisha. Additionally, NALCO has an aluminium smelter and a 1200MW captive power plant located in Angul, Odisha. The company’s production capabilities include a 68.25 lakh TPA bauxite mine and a 21.00 lakh TPA alumina refinery at Damanjodi, alongside a 4.60 lakh TPA aluminium smelter in Angul.

NALCO’s extensive network includes regional sales offices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and seven operating stockyards across India, facilitating domestic distribution. The company also operates a bulk shipment facility for exporting its products. Emphasizing sustainability, NALCO has installed 198 MW wind power plants across India and 850 kWp rooftop solar power plants at its premises, contributing to carbon neutrality efforts. Since its first commercial operation in 1987, NALCO has consistently been profitable for 37 years, becoming one of the leading foreign exchange-earning CPSEs in the country. In FY 2023-24, NALCO achieved a net profit of ₹2,060 crore, a 33% year-on-year increase, with record-high bauxite excavation and cast metal production. As the first public sector company in India to engage significantly in the international metal market, NALCO has been registered with the London Metal Exchange (LME) since 1989. The company is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) since 1992 and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) since 1999, holding multiple ISO certifications, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and SA 8000. The company’s Data Centre and Disaster Recovery Site have also received ISO 27001:2013 Certification for Information Security Management from International Accreditation Services, USA.
